Sounds of Intent
OnlineTraining Course for Lead Persons in Trinity College Examination Centres
Sounds of Intent Charity is working in partnership with Trinity College London to offer a suite of fully inclusive qualifications for schools and other settings delivering music education. They are primarily intended for pupils and students those with learning difficulties, across the whole spectrum of abilities and needs, from those with profound learning difficulties to those on the autism spectrum with advanced musicianship skills, for whom traditional examinations are a barrier. Hence the scheme enables everyone to have their musical achievements and progress formally recognised. More information can be found at the Trinity College website.
Available in the UK and Ireland from September 2022. The Awards and Certificates in Musical Development are Trinity’s new, fully inclusive qualifications for schools and other settings delivering the Sounds of Intent music learning programme, and are designed for those with learning difficulties, across the whole spectrum of abilities and needs. www.trinitycollege.com
Preparation for the assessments can be made during regular music sessions, with achievement and progress continually assessed by the teacher or music leader. Assessments are made using the ‘E•A•X’ (’emerging, achieving, excelling’) summative assessment scheme ‘The E•A•X Scheme’ at Levels 2-6 of the Sounds of Intent framework. In order to register as an Examination Centre, a Lead Person must be identified, and they will need to confirm that they have worked through the self-directed learning course offered here. It comprises three PowerPoints and series of tasks using video clips that are designed to develop competence and confidence in using the Sounds of Intent framework to assess children and young people’s levels of musical engagement. All the materials are contained in the folders ‘Session 1’, ‘Session 2’ and Session 3’. Depending on prior experience it is estimated that the course will take between 10 and 12 hours to complete.
Please make sure to complete the tasks on a single device as your progress will be tracked by the widget at the top of the page. When you have completed all the tasks a downloadable certificate will become available. This will be required for you to register as a Lead Person.
